Women Empowerment
A step towards Gender Equality
"There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly 🕊️ with one wing"
- by Swami Vivekananda
Women are the symbol of peace, love and sacrifice. The journey of liberation of women from the clutches of the patriarchal society and from the dogmatic traditions ,has hard over the last decades. But they had plenty of chances to succeed in the twenty-first century. Women today manage home tasks while also being self sufficient, financially independent, and well-informed. Thanks to the technological developments which gives them a right platform. Due to their determination and patience, co-education encourages women to compete against males in a variety of disciplines, including sports, politics, the health sector, academia, and the military. Today's development has led gender equality at some extent but a long way has to come yet. Women like Mother Teresa, Kalpana Chawla, Marie Curie, Indira Gandhi, Arunima Sinha,Malala Yousafzai ,Kiran bedi , and a new commerce Greta Thunberg show their potential in their respective fields.
Empowerment is a multifaceted, multidimensional and multilayered concept. Women empowerment is a process in which women gain greater share of control over decision making processes in the Home, Community, Society and nation . They also spearheading in the Economical, Social, and political spheres.
For women, having their own resources -such as owning assets or receiving Income from a paid job or through social protection -puts them on a more equal footing with men in their intimate relationships. For older women, having their own income or assets is critical in securing an adequate standard of living.
In several countries across the world 🌍, Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) is considered a powerful fiscal tool to back efforts towards gender equality with financial commitments. GRB is not just about resource allocation for woman's programmes but the application of a gender lens to the entire budgetary exercise, keeping in view the different needs of women and men.
Women's issues must be central to the national policy agenda and a major campaign should be developed if a nation is to radically alter the gender equation. Ex- INDIA launched so many successful initiatives to improve the condition of women, especially those at the margins of our patriarchal society and empower them to take rightful place in society. Main campaigns like The SWACHH BHARAT Mission for protecting the dignity of women , UJJWALA for smokeless kitchens, BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO campaign, BADLAV(Beti apki Dhan Lakshmi aur Vijayalakshmi), PM MATRU VANDANA YOJANA (PMMVY ) a maternity benefit program , Women led - Self Help Groups(SHGs), and also Anganwadi services etc . These are some major schemes launched by INDIA in the past few years for the upliftment of the women and get them back to the mainstream.
Women empowerment is a crucial and ongoing process that aims to create equal opportunities, rights, and representation for women in all aspects of life. It recognizes the inherent value and potential of women and seeks to challenge and overcome the social, cultural, and economic barriers that have historically marginalized them.
Over the years, there has been significant progress in the journey towards women empowerment. Women have broken barriers, shattered glass ceilings, and achieved remarkable milestones in various fields. They have proven their capabilities and talents in politics, business, science, sports, arts, and countless other domains. More women are pursuing education, joining the workforce, and taking up leadership roles than ever before.
However, the work towards achieving full gender equality is far from complete. Women continue to face discrimination, violence, unequal pay, limited access to healthcare, and underrepresentation in decision-making processes. It is essential to address these persistent challenges and strive for comprehensive and lasting change.
Women empowerment is not just beneficial for women but for society as a whole. When women are empowered, societies become more prosperous, peaceful, and equitable. Studies have shown that empowering women leads to better economic outcomes, improved health and education for families, and increased social and political stability. By promoting women's rights and empowering them to reach their full potential, we can create a more inclusive and just world for all.
It is crucial for individuals, communities, governments, and organizations to come together and actively support women empowerment. This involves implementing policies and laws that protect women's rights, providing access to quality education and healthcare, promoting gender-sensitive leadership, encouraging economic opportunities, and challenging harmful gender norms and stereotypes. It also requires fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where women can voice their opinions, make choices, and participate fully in all spheres of life.
Finally, I want to say that, the road to development can't be travelled without the EDUCATION, HEALTH and EMPOWERMENT of women. A multi -dimensional organised approach to women development is sure to take the country way beyond this path.
Conclusion:- women empowerment is an ongoing journey that requires collective efforts and commitment. By working towards achieving gender equality, we can create a brighter future for women, their families, and society as a whole. Let us continue to empower women, celebrate their achievements, and advocate for a world where everyone can thrive without discrimination or limitations.
